Classic Ferrari Is New World Record At Auction

written by Andrew Rixon on Sunday 31st of May 2009

At the Leggende e Passione sale, a Ferrari 250 TR classic car has broken the world record for the highest price paid at auction. The 1957 classic car sold for 9.02 million euros. The sale was held within the grounds of Ferrari''s Maranello factory and the TR was part of a large range of cars up for auction.

The car beats the previous record holder, the 1961 250 GT California which was bought recently by Chris Evans. The TR is one of only 22 pontoon-fender cars built between 1957 and 1958. It''s a race car that''s road legal, which was very much the case in the 50s and 60s.

The car was designed by Scaglietti, who was recently honoured with the naming of the Ferrari 612 2+2 supercar. The car has the chassis number of 0714TR. The auction was held by RM Auctions
