City Quarter is the spectacular £200 million transformation of the historic Goodmans Field site in Whitechapel, former depot and sugar refinery, into a landmark development of stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses.

This is one of the largest residential regeneration projects to be undertaken in the City for over a decade. Designed by award winning Architects Sheppard Robson, City Quarter is a fusion of brand new apartments alongside the restoration of a Grade II listed Victorian building.

The second phase, No. 2 City Quarter provides a stunning collection of 54 apartments and penthouses positioned over six floors and designed to the highest specification. The second of four phases of development, apartments in No. 2 feature the latest in architectural and interior design whilst beautifully complementing the stunning 19th century architecture of the Grade II listed Sugar House.

Each apartment in No. 2 City Quarter benefits from its own balcony, water deck or terrace and many proffer views of the beautifully landscaped central water garden, which provides a peaceful oasis away from the bustling hub of the Square Mile.

The specification at No. 2 City Quarter is impressive. Apartment interiors are light and spacious with glass fronted living rooms and open plan kitchens. The overall feel is sleek and luxurious. Kitchens boast handle free white glass doors, stylish steel and glass telescopic glide extractors, composite stone worktops and brushed stainless steel Siemens appliances. In the bathrooms light oak panelled baths, top of the range Hansgrohe fittings and ceramic floor tiles convey a spa-like feel. The state-of-the art minimalist interiors perfectly complement the contemporary exteriors to form an outstandingly stylish development.

Berkeley Homes’ Interior Designer Jo Love has created a stunning new show apartment to showcase No. 2 City Quarter. A soft palette of browns and greens throughout the apartment blends perfectly with the white glass and stone in the kitchens, and conveys a sense of harmony and relaxation in the bedroom. Black and white photographs featuring decorative details from the Grade II listed Sugar House have been hung throughout the apartment to cash in on the sense of grandeur that neighbouring Sugar House exudes.

Jo comments: “My intention was to create an apartment that potential buyers could picture themselves living in. A blank canvas for modern living, residents can integrate their own personality within the existing space though furniture and artwork. City Quarter is an exclusive retreat within the city and I wanted to reflect this in my design concepts. I used cool hues and colours complementary to the specification to create sleek calm luxury in the city.”

City Quarter is situated a short walk from the heart of the financial district as well as a stone’s throw from Tower Bridge and the River Thames. The zone one development is under a 10 minute walk from Aldgate and Aldgate East underground stations (giving easy access to the West End), and is a short walk from Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street mainline stations as well as the DLR at Tower Gateway, which has good links to Canary Wharf, Docklands and City airport.

After the success of the first phase of the scheme, Berkeley Homes had another excellent response to No. 2 City Quarter. Jon Hall, Head of Sales & Marketing for Berkeley Homes comments: ‘‘With its fantastic location, cutting edge design and excellent specification, a City Quarter apartment is ideal for today’s discerning City professionals. We had an encouraging response when the first building was released back in June last year and the properties in No.2 are proving just as popular.”

The penthouses at No.2 City Quarter offer some of the best in luxury living, which can also be experienced at Berkeley Homes Tabard Square development in Borough, SE1. Only two penthouses remain for sale, at the development, which is located close to Borough Market.

The penthouses feature a highly contemporary specification, designed to offer open plan living. Linea Quattro Italian fitted kitchens come complete with Miele stainless steel appliances while the bathrooms feature ceramic wall and floor tiles.

The properties also feature a spiral staircase with glass treads and curved glass balustrade, a paved terrace and decked balcony, zoned underfloor heating system and a hard wired integrated audio visual system that includes ceiling speakers, wall-mounted control points and an i-pod docking station.

Purchasers of the penthouses will also benefit from some of the most unrivalled views of London, which are enhanced by floor-to-ceiling glazing. The Millennium Wheel on the South Bank, St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower 42, the Shell Building, Southwark Cathedral, Tate Modern, the Houses of Parliament, the BT Tower, 30 St Mary Axe (the ‘Gherkin’), Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf in the Docklands can all be seen from the apartment.

Paul Gray, a purchaser at Tabard Square, comments: “When we decided to invest in a property in London we wanted to find a unique property that offered an attractive view. We have many friends in London who live in Clerkenwell and started our search there. After seeing the views from Tabard Square we knew we’d found the perfect place. Considering the close proximity to major London attractions and the excellent transport links, we couldn’t ask for much more.”

The development features a 40,000 square foot internal courtyard, which offers public access and a 3,400 sq-ft sculptural pavilion with facilities for a bar and restaurant, and is set to become the hub of the community. Off Borough High Street, only a five-minute walk away is Borough underground station and just a short walk over the river is the City. Borough Station provides access to the London underground Northern line, and London Bridge train station is five minutes away offering access to the Jubilee line and main line railways.

The stunning development features a unique barometer controlled beacon on the very top of the 22-storey tower. The glowing beacon changes colour depending on the barometric pressure, and has become an established sight and impressive addition to the South London skyline. Residents at Tabard Square will also benefit from a 24-hour concierge and 46,000 sq-ft of commercial space.

Prices for the apartments at No. 2 City Quarter start at £625,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and the penthouses are priced from £725,000.
