The tension conducts like sheet lightning through the pit crews and spectators as the drone of horsepower rumbles ominously above. The calm before the storm is suddenly broken by the crackle of the VHF radio “Pole leader, this is Air Boss...you have the green flag. Start the race.”

Aero GP, the motorsport series with airplanes racing like Formula One cars, competitive air to air combat, target bombing and other aerobatic challenges, is the ultimate test of the most skilled pilots in the world. That much is becoming widely known. What is less known is that the opportunities to become involved in this sport are abound.

There is a revolution in the sports industry that sees air sports, which have a long and competitive tradition, being developed from grass roots to world class international events – and big business. Aero GP is the embodiment of numerous air sports disciplines which, when packaged for television and media, can provide an intense new forum for entertainment and an ideal platform for sponsorship. The rumble quickly builds to an organ-vibrating thunder [steady on! –ed] and in a seemingly timeless moment, the tension turns to awe. Then, as if personally answering to the Air Boss’s signal, 100,000 adrenal glands start pumping as the pack of eight airplanes scream past at eye level in a 250mph flurry of overtaking and heavy G turns. Ten laps later, a well-deserved pause before the next round begins...

And due to the nascency of this series, there is also the opportunity for entrepreneurs to participate in the new phenomenon.

Even without any experience in aviation, in investor or syndicate can own a professional Aero GP air racing team equipped with one of the world’s top competition pilots, super high performance aircraft and all the commercial rights and benefits that other teams, such as those in F1, MotoGP or America’s Cup enjoy – but from the ground floor.

This article is found in a timely and opportune issue. The next Aero GP event takes place in Romania in the Black Sea city of Constanta on 25-26 August this summer, where the organisers plan to train new pilots and test new aircraft, rules and safety procedures. This event, “The Aero GP Constanta Challenge” is an ideal opportunity for an interested party to join the action as a VIP and get a first-hand close-up look into how the sport works in anticipation of this year’s final Aero GP Championship in Asia and the 2008 world series (both to be announced soon).

The opportunity for sponsors is enormous for this globally-televised and crowd-attracting event. The luxury aviator watch company, Bremont, is the newest in a line of high-profile sponsors such as Betfair and Microsoft that have identified the Aero GP as a unique sports property to showcase their brand values and attributes to a proven broad and affluent demographic.

Did Russian billionaire buy 496 million euro property?
Recently, it was reported that Villa Leopolda was sold to a Russian billionaire for just under 500 million euros. It soon revealed that Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov was behind the sale. As is the habit with Russian oligarchs, Prokhorov made his billions in precious metals. In 2007 he launched a $17 billion private investment fund, so he was definitely wealthy enough to purchase the property.
