Eclipse Aviation are the world's leading very light jet manufacturer, providing jets which are both affordable and innovative. Their Eclipse 500 jet is an ideal jet for personal and business travel and at around $2 million, its bringing personal jet ownership into a new market.
Last week, the Eclipse 500 Very Light Jet had an Airworthiness Directive issued to it by the Federal Aviation Administration following an emergency landing by an Eclipse 500 at Chicago Midway International Airport on June 5th, 2008.
Eclipse Aviation very quickly issued two communications to inform owners and operators of the event in Chicago. As of June 6th, all fleet operators have taken the relevant action and the planes are in the air operating as normal.
The directive required for the pilots to check the thrust quadrant assembly. Some reports stated that it required the planes to be grounded, but this was not the case. The inspection took less than 10 minutes. This is the first issue for the jet in more than 18,000 fleet hours.
So it looks like this was a very minor issue and Eclipse Aviation have handled it well. Some industry watchers took this news with a deal of worry as this aircraft is used by a number of airtaxi services.
