The luxury market is full of concierge companies who offer their services to the masses, or specific clubs which concentrate their efforts on one particular product such as cars or yachts. However consumers of such luxury services invariably have penchant for a wide range of such services, which can ideally be seamlessly interwoven.

Calvin Harris, CEO and founder of Lux500 recognised that there was a gap in the market for a club which specialised in all luxury services. As a result he has created the worlds first luxury super club. Although it may have been more profitable to have an unlimited membership base, Lux500 has a limited worldwide membership of only 500, hence the name of the company. For Lux500 it is not all about the money, it is about providing an exclusive and unprecedented level of quality service to a limited number of members.

Recently I visited Lux500’s Berkeley Square office, in the centre of London. Here I met Calvin to ask him about his past, and the future of the company.

I wanted to know what drove him to get where he is today. Calvin began, “I grew up in Nottingham and came to London when I was 21. Disappointed that I didn’t get into the London School of Economics, I started my own construction company and ventured into property.

“I am very passionate about the things I do so when I started my career in the property business I quickly extended my portfolio with significant land holdings around the South East. My early success allowed me to indulge in my passion for supercars. However, my real passion is for the Jaguar Marque. After owning my first Daimler at the age of 23, I soon fell in love with supercars in general but I always buy the latest XKR. I just love the cosseted luxury combined with speed.

“Three years ago I suffered a life changing illness and subsequently lost my sight for a period. This caused me to significantly change the way I viewed life, because I realised that no one knows what’s round the corner. I decided that one should live life to the full extent of its value and so Lux500 was born - a luxury lifestyle enhancer providing a portfolio of goods and services from under one roof but also trying to make each individuals experience unique. In the early days there where lots of ideas floating around so I got a team of very good marketing and development people together and we developed the brand and positioning from the original concept. It was important not to lose sight of the original concept which had a strong emphasis on family participation. I believed the family wasn’t adequately catered for within the luxury sector.

“I have three sons and a wonderful wife who now enjoy more of my time as I try to balance my home life with business. I grew up always hearing my dad say there is no such word as can’t and since then I’ve always believed anything is possible and I try to instill that belief into my children.

“My friends have often heard me say ‘Live the life you love then you will love the life you live’. Thus ‘Your Idea Of Luxury’ is now the heartbeat of the Lux500 Club.”

Asics Inner Muscle Revolutionises Sport Clothing
High end sports clothing has recently gone down the route of tight elastic tops and shorts that initially appear about 4 sizes too small for the athlete. The theory is that the tops provide more overall support to muscles, which improves performance. Asics, a leading trainer company, has taken this technology one step further. Lusso took a look.

Did Russian billionaire buy 496 million euro property?
Recently, it was reported that Villa Leopolda was sold to a Russian billionaire for just under 500 million euros. It soon revealed that Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov was behind the sale. As is the habit with Russian oligarchs, Prokhorov made his billions in precious metals. In 2007 he launched a $17 billion private investment fund, so he was definitely wealthy enough to purchase the property.
