The dubious use of the Ferrari moniker continues unabated with this latest piece of branded merchandise - the Ferrari Art.Engine. Taking many styling cues from the automotive world, this speaker set stands at nearly four feet tall, and is supposed to resemble the engine block of a Ferrari. It is relatively successful, with each of the individual speakers looking like a cylinder in the block.
Slightly less convincing are the two NACA ducts placed near the bottom - apparently they provide cooling for the electronics... Ferrari’s expertise has been used in the construction, incorporating their knowledge of both aluminium and carbon fiber techniques. Each set is hand built individually to order, and take up to two weeks to complete. A choice of authentic Ferrari colours is available, including Argento Nurburgring, Grigio Silverstone, Nero, and the classic Rosso Corsa. As the speakers are designed to be placed in the corner of a room, sound setup is critical. Upon delivery, an engineer will perform a calibration to achieve the optimum location. We were unable to test the sound quality as there are no sample sets available at the moment, but as always with hi end audio equipment it is worthwhile trying it out first if possible. Of course all of this does not come cheap, and the UK retail prices is Ł18,000, with only 1000 units being produced. www.dwvartengine.com
