Yes it’s a big boot – but it should be, it’s an estate car. The top half of the image shows a small shelf, a removable part of the boot that in addition to spinning the cover for all your booted-goodies has a box or compartment, complete with the same push-open, push-close, instant-break mechanism that you used to find concealing the buttons on the front of televisions.
Well it hasn’t broken but it undoubtedly will, these things are on self destruct timers, just like the TV cover that detonates upon the touch of anyone under the age of 18.
My question lies in it’s purpose, it’s too shallow or small to fit anything useful like shopping in, too thin for a rifle of any description. Maybe a fishing rod would fit in there, however I think fishing is dull, so don’t have the capacity to test this theory. I managed to get a wood splitting axe in there once, maybe in the event of a crash the items concealed in there would be the only things not to hurtle towards the driver, in which case I was right on the money when I put the axe in there.
On the other hand, maybe a crash is the trigger to the latches self-destruct mechanism. Either way, I’m not going to test that theory out. I will keep trying to fit inanimate objects in there and report back if anything of any real consequence or purpose fits.
1. A short message for Daniel Sharp RE VOLVO V50 BOOTThe long thin narrow compartment attached to the load cover is for storing an &prime UMBERELLA&prime not an axe fishing rod or rifle. Simple really!!Mr. D. Day-Lewis
